SUBMITTALS

General: Submit each item in this Article according to the Conditions of the Contract and for Specifier, Architect, Designer approval.

Product Specifications for product / item. Include data on physical characteristics, cleanability and durability, physical performance, flame‐resistance characteristics, TVOC emsission (Total Volitile Organic Compound), recycled content (post‐consumer and pre‐consumer).

Shop Drawings showing location and extent of application. Indicate seams and termination points. Samples for verification in sets for each color, texture, and pattern specified, showing the full range of variations expected in these characteristics.

Material: Full‐width sample, not less than 36 inches (914 mm) long, from dye lot used for the Work. Mark top and face of material. Show complete pattern repeat.

Product certificates signed by manufacturers certifying products complies with specified requirements.

Manufactures Warranty.

Installation instructions.

Product USGBC LEED support if required for project.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Installer Qualifications: Engage an experienced installer who has completed 5 projects similar in material, design, and extent to that indicated for this Project and with a record of successful in‐service performance.

Fire‐Test‐Response Characteristics: Provide wall coverings with the following surface‐burning characteristics as determined by testing identical products per ASTM E 84 ‐ Flame Spread: 25 or less and Smoke Developed: 50 or less.

Provide wall coverings complying with and passing NFPA 286 Corner Burn and meeting NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.

Mockups: Prior to installing wallcovering, construct mockups for each form of construction and finish required to verify selections made under Sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects as well as qualities of materials and execution. Build mockups to comply with the following requirements, using materals indidicate for final unit of Work.

Locate mockups on‐site in the location and of the size indicated or, if not indicated, as directed by Architect.

Notify Architect 7 days in advance of the dates and times when mockups will be constructed.

Demonstrate the proposed range of aesthetic effects and workmanship. Obtain Architect's approval of mockups before start of final unit of Work. Retain and maintain mockups during construction in an undisturbed condition as a standard for judging the completed Work.

When directed, demolish and remove mockups from Project site. Approved mockups in an undisturbed condition at the time of Substantial Completion may become part of the completed Work.

PROJECT CONDITIONS

Space Enclosure and Environmental Limitations: Do not install wall covering until space is enclosed and weatherproof, wet‐work in space is completed and nominally dry, work above ceilings is complete, and ambient temperature is 60‐80^o F and humidity conditions are 50% continuously maintained six days prior to installation.

Lighting: Do not install wallcovering until a lighting level of not less than 15 foot‐candles (160 lux) is provided on the surfaces to receive wall covering.

Provide continuous ventilation during installation and for not less than six days for full drying or curing.

EXTRA MATERIALS

Furnish extra materials described below, before installation begins, that match products installed, are packaged with protective covering for storage, and are identified with labels describing contents.

Rolls of Wall Covering Material: Full‐size units equal to 5 percent of amount of each type installed.

PART 2 ‐ PRODUCTS

ADHESIVES

Use only water base low VOC commerical heavy‐duty clear adhesive. Primers may be used to improve stripability and adhesion. Use only breathable primers prior to installation on wallcovering that is microvented. Provide materials which are mildew‐resistant and nonstaining to wallcovering.

Do not double hang wallcovering. Do not install wallcovering over exisiting installed vinyl wallcovering.

PART 3 ‐ EXECUTION

EXAMINATION

Examine substrates for compliance with requirements for moisture content and other conditions affecting performance. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

Test substrate with electronic moisture meter to verify that surfaces to be covered does not exceed a moisture content of 5‐7%.

PREPARATION

Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for surface preparation.

Clean substrates of substances that could impair wall covering's bond, including mold, mildew, oil, grease, incompatible primers, and dirt.

Acclimatize wall covering materials by removing them from packaging in the installation areas not less than 24 hours before installation.

Prepare substrates to achieve a smooth, dry, clean surface free of flaking, unsound coatings, cracks, and defects.

Painted Surfaces: Prime or treat areas susceptible to pigment bleeding.

Moisture Content: 5‐7% percent on new plaster, concrete, and concrete masonry units when tested with an electronic moisture meter.

Prime new gypsum board with primer recommended by wall covering manufacturer.

Allow new plaster to cure. Treat areas of high alkalinity.

Remove switchplates, wall plates, and surface‐mounted fixtures in areas where wallcovering is to be applied. Upon completion of wallcovering installation in each space are area, reinstall items removed using workmen skilled in the trades involved.

Check painted surfaces for pigment bleeding. Sand gloss, semigloss, and eggshell finishes with fine sandpaper.

Install wall liner, with no gaps or overlaps, where required by wall covering manufacturer. Form smooth wrinkle‐free surface for finished installation. Do not begin wall covering installation until wall liner has dried.

INSTALLATION, GENERAL

General: Comply with wall coverings manufacturers' written installation instructions applicable to products and applications indicated, except where more stringent requirements apply.

Verify that colors and patterns of wall coverings are those specified before beginning installation.

Cut wall covering panels in roll number sequence, starting with the lowest numberd roll. Change run numbers at partition breaks and corners only.

Place panels consecutively in the order cut from rolls, including filling spaces above or below openings. Hang by reversing alternate strips except on match patterns.

Seams or non match patterns may be table trimmed or overlpapped and double cut.

Match pattern 72 inches (1830 mm) above finish floor.

Install seams vertical and plumb at least 6 inches (150 mm) from outside corners and 3 inches (75 mm) from inside corners. No horizontal seams.

Remove air bubbles, wrinkles, blisters, and other defects.

Trim edges for color uniformity, pattern match, and tight closure at seams and edges. Overlap and double‐cut seams.

Install 3 strips and inspect. Notify manufactuer if defects and pattern effect are not acceptable prior to continuation.

CLEANING

Remove excess adhesive at finished seams, perimeter edges, and adjacent surfaces. Use cleaning methods recommended by wall covering manufacturer.

Containing an antimocrobial addative.
